As I was preparing to watch the Super Bowl with three of my good friends, we conversed about our favorite commercials from the previous year’s event. We talked about how different companies used different techniques to appeal to the age group that they are trying to target and how they try to outdo the rest of its competitors. We concluded that Pepsi and Bud Light had the best commercials last year. This year was no different. Both companies made humorous advertisements that caught everyone’s attention.
The Pepsi Max commercial this year was by far my personal favorite. In this advertisement, many people are bobbing their heads because they are so tired. They all look like they are bobble heads while they are at their jobs, an award show, and even standing in line at a coffee shop to the music of “What is Love”. But once they get a small sip of Pepsi Max, everyone becomes more alive and starts doing the head nod as seen in the movie “A Night at the Roxbury”. They are showing that their product has more caffeine than the leading competitor’s drink.
I also found the Bud Light commercial that involves the ability to breathe fire to be very interesting as well. In this commercial, it claims that if you drink this type of beer, you will acquire the ability breathe fire. It shows examples of men using this ability to impress women but also shows how it backfires on them. In the beginning of this commercial, the announcer states that there is a limited supply of the fire-breathing ability and by the end of this advertisement the supplies are gone. Although this seems very far-fetched, some person may believe this advertisement and get their hopes up about being able to spit fire from their mouth but then have their hopes crushed by then end of the 30 second commercial.
It has become a well known fact that more people watch the Super Bowl to see how outrageous the commercials are than actually watch the game itself. Each year the advertising companies spend large amounts of money to produce these commercials that are aired during this annual event. The commercials are becoming more humorous, more scandalous, and definitely more expensive. I’m sure everyone is looking forward to the next Super Bowl. Whether to watch the commercials or the game itself, there is something that takes place to appeal to people of all different ages.
