Letter to the Bluffs

To The Residents of the Bluffs,
Life in the Bottoms is something that nobody should ever have to experience. It is a situation that most cannot even begin to comprehend, let alone relate to. Poor living conditions include a toxic environment due to the chemical plant spilling toxins into the ground. Also, sewage is a huge problem for the residents of the Bottoms because of the lack of environmental control the sewage plant offers. Not only are we all living in a toxic place, the education of our children is a situation that is even more troubling. The children of the Bottoms have it the worst here. Their lives have been predetermined for them before they even started. Our children cannot ever hope to accomplish anything great or profound because they are being set up for failure from the beginning. The school system in the Bluffs can be best described as horribly lacking. Everything is lacking from a good staff of teachers all the way to classroom size. The teachers here are few and inexperienced. Since the residents in the Bottoms cannot afford to pay the teachers all that much, the teachers do not stay on long because the city cannot afford pay raises. This is truly terrible because it is not the students’ fault, yet they are paying the consequences. Textbooks are largely out of date and there are not enough to go around to all of the students. The laboratories are overcrowded to the point where some students cannot even participate in the lab. The schools of the Bottoms are not conducive to proper learning. Then, we arrive at the school buildings themselves. The schools are old and rundown. They are unkempt dirty. Most students will not even use the restrooms here because they are afraid of the conditions they might find when they got in there. Despite all of these negative qualities one may find when observing the Bottoms, there is something that can be done.
It is my belief that the residents of the Bluffs are very able to help the residents of the Bottoms. Through generous financial support, the Bottoms could become an area that is no longer associated with the horrendous qualities outlined above. If the residents of the Bluffs passed a levy that increased taxes and fiscal support that went directly into the Bottoms, the two names would disappear. There would no longer be the Bluffs and the Bottoms; we would all be united under one city and one quality of life. All our children would be able to lead a happy and successful life without the worry of monetary problems. Please help the residents of the Bottoms, it is essential that taxes are used for the betterment of the city as a whole. To make the whole city better, the Bottoms need to be cleaned up and the children need to realize that there is life outside of the environment they are in now. In short, there are many people that need and deserve your help. These people are not wealthy and have no means of helping themselves get out of the extreme poverty they are in. Please vote to increase taxes in the Bluffs to help the people of the Bottoms.
