A Letter to the Bluffs

Dear the citizens of the Bluffs,
I am writing from your neighboring community from the Bottoms of East St. Louis to tell you that we are in major help. There are many problems that are going on in the Bottoms and there are not enough resources to provide in order to fix the problems. Many of these problems that are occurring cannot be regulated, because the Bottoms are experiencing poverty and the city is in a major debt that cannot be fixed any time soon.
In the Bottoms of East St. Louis, there have been many problems that are occurring and the most significant one would probably be the living conditions throughout the city. The local chemical plants have released excess toxins into the sewers for many years and this has become a serious problem that is not being fixed. The sewer system of the city is also in pretty bad of shape and is also not able to be fixed any time soon. The sewers have been backed up many times in the city and have led to flooding issues for the area.
The children of East St. Louis were found to be some of the sickest children in America. This is due to the sewage problems and also the pollution in the air from the chemicals that are being release, the dental problems, and not enough health care for the children. The children have a very poor nutrition from being in poverty and on average only have $2.40 a day to spend on food. That cannot buy very much and so the children suffer.
The children also suffer from the lack of education that is provided to them. Many of the teachers are being laid off because the city does not have enough money to provide for the teacher’s salaries. This can cause problems in the children’s learning and also is leading to some students not even having a teacher in the classroom. Also, the city is not able to afford the proper resources for the classroom to be able to teach and provide for a “good” learning environment.
This situation is in great need of your help, especially in the form of taxes. The living conditions and other problems in the community need to be fixed and with the help of your generation of taxes, should help benefit for the community and city to be brought back up to the norm. Also the schools will get the resources that they are lacking and any other materials that are required in the schools. It would be greatly appreciated if you were able to help give the children a brighter future and realize how they too need to succeed. Also, the city could have a nice turn around and continue to succeed if done correctly and provided with help from the city of the Bluffs.
