Pretty much the entire population of the United States is watching television on Sunday, February 3, 2008 and even watching the same channel. All eyes were on the New York Giants and New England Patriots fight for the Super Bowl Champion title. Many people, especially the guys, are there glued to their television sets so see their team go all the way, but most females, or in the case I’ve seen, are watching the game only to watch when the players are off the field. Including myself, except for this year when my team was playing and won, I watch the Super Bowl for their priceless commercials. Many companies, those known and not so known, have spent millions of money just to air their company on national television, plus thousands or millions extra to create these one of a kind commercials. There are teams designed to make the best commercials, appealing to all types of audiences in order to boost their purchases. Any company can depend on advertising on the Super Bowl to get an increase in sales and get their products known.
Watching the Super Bowl, I found one very interesting commercial that took my interest. It started out with a squirrel in the middle of the road eating an acorn. All of a sudden, he sees a car coming his way. Instead of getting off the road and out of the way, this squirrel starts to stand where he is and screams at the top of his lungs. This scream is probably heard throughout the forest and other surrounding areas because all of a sudden, an owl starts to hoot away and a deer screams and then other animals of the forest and swamp areas scream. Before you know it the car is getting closer to the squirrel, as it continues to scream, so does the passenger, who looks incredibly like a squirrel herself. Once the car gets close enough, the driver sees the squirrel, as well as hears his wife, and swerves to the right, to the left and back in center, there were no deaths occurring on that road at that time. This commercial, intelligently designed to sell Bridgestone tires. Not even in the market of tires, I still enjoyed the comical commercial and saw how easy it is to navigate with this type of tires. The use of the screaming animals, and passenger, made the commercial more persuasive, since you always want to be able to control the wheel to avoid animals in the middle of the road. The tires had their argument decided for them. No one likes to run over animals or have even run over road kill, so why would you continue with old tires when you can use those form Bridgestone and avoid any further deaths on the road, as far as small animals go? This ad was very successful in making its argument and persuading audiences everywhere. Before I even knew what the commercial was for, I was entertained with the lively animals surrounding the road. Some commercials were really random and were advertising for an unknown product that got blank stares after the commercial was aired. The commercial for Bridgestone tires and the squirrel definitely got lots of laughs, and possible purchases.
