Regional Dialects

The use of language is extremely important of where we live in the United States of America and also the use of language is important in other countries. In the United States, there are various regional dialects from each region of the country. I am from Western Pennsylvania and this part of the country has its own dialect entitled Pittsburghese.
This type of dialect consists of many word and phrases that are condensed into one word. For example the phrase “Did you eat yet?” is condensed to “Det yet?” This is just one of many examples of the condensing of phrases used in the local dialect. This effects how someone from Western Pennsylvania communicates with someone from another part of the vast regional dialects across the country.
Other parts of Pittsburghese included calling subs, Hoagie’s. Some people in the other part of the country have never heard of hoagies and this makes for some unique conversation in other parts of the country. Also, the great debate of “pop” or “soda” is a unique argument that various dialects have. This also makes for some unique conversations. In Pittsburghese, downtown is pronounced “dahntahn” and rubber bands are called “gumbans.” Sometimes people refer to the Pittsburgh Steelers as the “Stiller’s.” All of these regional dialects conflict with each other. This is where communication is important. People have to explain what they are trying to say in some instances. This makes regional dialects unique to their own part of the country.
The use of communication in other parts of the world is also important. When I visited several foreign countries communication was important to understand what I was supposed to do or what I was trying to tell them to do. This barrier required some translation of the text that was spoken at these instances. Sometimes when translating the text, various words were left out of the sentence and this left a hole of what the person was actually saying. This lead to some confusion of what was being said.
Overall, regional dialects and foreign countries make language an important part of everyday tasks. Languages can be used to translate or even communicate with another person. Regional dialects make the language to a particular part of the country unique in that they have their own particular language. This makes for some unique conversation and the use of other means of how to communicate with people.
