MY CITATION STYLE

MLA style is a citation form that is not very hard to use at all. In addition to the ease of its use, there are many citation machines that one can find online to make citing a source extremely easy. However, if I were to create my own citation style, it would be named EASE style. The way to cite a source throughout a paper will be very easy to do. The way that papers become cited will make students unafraid of messing up how they cite quotes and sources.
First off, there will be a number system. All of the sources on the work cited page will be numbered. The order will not be alphabetical by the author’s last name as in the MLA style, each source will have a number. When using the number system in embedded quotes, all the writer has to do is parenthesize the number of the quote, add a dash, and then the page or line number. That way, the cite source will appear to be a coordination number that one may find in math class. A cite may look like this: (4-25). This would show that it is from the fourth listed source and the twenty-fifth page. The number system also helps because it condenses the text. There will no longer be last names of an author littered throughout the pages and it is one less thing that the reader must read. The author’s name will not be found in between sentences almost as a break. The reader will no longer have to stop concentrating on the reading to read who wrote what has been quoted.
Another part of the MLA format that is good, but needs some revising is the water extended quotes are added to the paper. In MLA format, if a quote stretches over four lines, it needs to be on its own and indented into the page. I believe only part of this needs changing. Four lines is a exceedingly hard to come up with. I think that if a quote takes up three lines intended, it should be indented in the report. Too often, there are quotes that take up a lot of space in a paragraph and it would be better if they were indented because of the ease on the reader. With a quote pulled out of the report, that quote becomes easier to read and easier to analyze.
When making a works cited page at the end of the paper, the articles or sources will be listed from publishing date. Earliest publications will be last on the list. The most recent articles published will be placed at the top of the list. This is a good way to look at the sources, because generally the most recent articles are more reputable and have better information. The sources with the most value to the paper will be listed first.
That is my new way to cite a source in a paper. I believe that it is very organized and makes subtle changes to the MLA format. MLA may have become outdated and therefore something should be analyzed and changed to make citing a source easier for the writer.
