Savage Inequalities

Thanks for your responses on "Savage Inequalities" today in class. For this blog, I want to continue thinking about Kozol and its relevancy to our discussion of literacy and education. Here are the two prompts:

1. Write from the point of view of a child in East St. Louis. What is your daily life like? What does literacy mean to you? What does education mean to you?

2. Write a letter to the people of the Bluffs and explain the situation in the Bottoms (i.e.: their living conditions, poor education, pollution, etc). Next, form an argument for why they should pay taxes to help the people in the Bottoms.

Pick one of these topics and write a 1 and a half page post. Two points extra credit will be given if you leave a comment on someone else's post responding to their writing.
