Thanks for all the thoughtful blogs about the last topic. For this blog, I want you to think about the Heath piece from the Humanities Base Text. I know it's difficult reading, but if you break it down it becomes much easier to read. Here are the two topics:
1. In her piece, Heath writes that "Literacy unlocked a variety of doors, but it did not necessarily secure admission" (Heath 35). Discuss what you think this quote means and cite any passages from Heath that help you come to an interpretation.
2. Think about communities that you're a part of (i.e.: family, the floor that you live on, sports teams, sororities, and even classes). As we learn from Heath, every community has rules for literacy; what are the literacy rules for one of the communities that you're a part of and how does one become a literate member of this group?
