Literacy Communities

Every community you are part of has a different kind of literacy that they use and speak every day. Literacy can be used in so many different ways depending on the type of literacy level of the individuals that you are around, like family, friends, soccer team, people on your floor, or just in general, adults. Also, the way you use literacy greatly depends on the geographic location you are in, the north, the south, the east or the west, people that live there all have different ways of representing there literacy, if only by a little bit. The multiple communities I am part of do have differences in the way they speak and write within the community they are in. In certain communities you can say anything you want, while others, you have to make sure to watch what you say and be as polite and honorable as possible. Every community has certain rules you must follow in order to be accepted and respected within the community.
The hardest community to follow the rules is the community of my friends. With adults, everyone knows that you are supposed to be polite and act proper, however with friends; there are so many different rules with different groups of friends. For instance, my one group of friends are very smart individuals and tend not to be vulgar or do anything that could possibly get them in trouble with any authority figure. These types of friends have rules like no drinking, no smoking, keep the swearing to the minimum, when typing on AIM type out the whole words, basically, just be use proper English and act professional. If you want to become a part of this group, you have to act responsible and proper all the time. Also, you probably would have to like to read for fun considering that is what this group likes to do and why they are so smart.
The next group of friends that have different rules than other groups of friends are the athletic friends. The athletic friends are the ones that like to have fun and have a good time. In order to communicate with this group of friends you need to know the athletic lingo and need to be well versed on sports. An important topic to know about is what is going on in the world of sports recently so you can talk about it with them. When talking to athletes in person or online, you can abbreviate anything and they will still understand and not care. The rules are pretty much as long as you can understand what someone is saying that is all that matters, it does not matter how proper the statement or sentences are.
Lastly, the most important group of friends is your best friends. Around your best friends you can say whatever you want and say it however you want to. The rules are do whatever you want, whenever you want and they will most likely still understand everything you are trying to say. Whether online or in person, you can talk in slang, abbreviate many words, and make words up and most of the time they know what you are talking about. The main rule is be yourself and say what is on your mind, no matter how blunt or outrageous it is. Your best friends will always be the people that will be the easiest for you to be literate with.
